OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING BANPIRACY

BanPiracy has made quite an impression over the past few months with its aggressive approach to fighting piracy.  For those not aware, this is an organization which enforces the legal use of software using methods up to and including litigation. Currently Waves is BanPiracy’s only client.  IMSTA has made contact with BanPiracy to get information about the organization since they are involved in piracy work.

After discussion with BanPiracy, we would like to make sure the public knows of some of the distinctions between IMSTA and BanPiracy. We neither condemn nor condone the methods used by BanPiracy, or any other organizations, associations, or groups - as it is not our place to do so.

We do not support BanPiracy's methods and are not associated with them in anyway.

There are two significant areas in which IMSTA differs from BanPiracy.  First, IMSTA is entirely non-profit and BanPiracy is a for-profit corporation. Second, IMSTA attacks the piracy problem from a purely educational angle.

IMSTA empathizes with any company wishing to protect their intellectual property.  We acknowledge that it is the right of any company to pursue its copyrights using any legal means.   However, we do not favor, nor would we ever participate in prosecution or any similarly aggressive methods.
